Spring in Massachusetts and New Hampshire arrives fast, and it brings its own specific mess: pollen coating every surface, mud tracked in from the yard, and months of closed-window winter dust that's been sitting undisturbed. A spring reset is less about a general tidy-up and more about undoing what a New England winter leaves behind.
Pollen Is the First Problem
Once trees and grasses start pollinating, fine particles work their way onto window sills, blinds, ceiling fans, and air purifier filters — even with windows shut. A few targeted tasks make the biggest difference:
- Dust ceiling fans, blinds, and window sills, where pollen settles first
- Replace or clean air purifier and HVAC filters, which trap a winter's worth of dust plus incoming pollen
- Wipe down outdoor furniture cushions and frames before bringing anyone near them, since pollen and bird droppings build up over winter storage
Mud Season Needs an Entryway Reset
Between melting snow and spring rain, entryways take the brunt of the season. Clearing out the shoe rack, making room for swapping heavy coats for lighter layers, and giving entry rugs a proper deep clean (not just a shake-out) keeps mud season from spreading through the rest of the house.
The Interior Deep Clean
This is where a real reset happens:

- Windows, inside and out — a winter's grime on the glass and tracks, gone in one pass
- Baseboards, molding, and light fixtures — easy to skip all winter, and it shows by spring
If it's been a while since your last full reset, this is a natural point to pair spring cleaning with a broader deep clean rather than treating them separately — most of the same rooms and surfaces overlap.
Setting Up the Rest of the Year
Spring is also the easiest time to start a recurring cleaning rhythm, since you're already resetting the whole house. Many of our residential clients begin a weekly or bi-weekly plan right after a spring deep clean, so the reset doesn't slowly undo itself over the summer.
